Charcoat Cable Coating

CharCoat CC Cable Coating is a high-performance water-based intumescent latex coating specifically developed to provide fire protection for single, grouped, or bundled electrical cables.

CharCoat CC has since become a trusted solution in advanced cable fire protection systems. The coating offers excellent fire resistance, capable of withstanding cellulosic fires up to 750°C for 90 minutes and hydrocarbon fires up to 1100°C for 90 minutes, even at a relatively low Dry Film Thickness (DFT).

CharCoat CC is based on a unique acrylic latex emulsion technology that provides outstanding resistance to weathering, environmental exposure, and aging. The coating maintains long-term flexibility, allowing for normal cable movement, maintenance, and removal without compromising protection.

Cable Coating works

CharCoat CC is an advanced intumescent cable coating designed to protect electrical cables under fire conditions.
At temperatures above 175°C, the coating rapidly expands up to 600–700%, forming a thick insulating char layer that  insulates cables, blocks oxygen, prevents flame spread, and maintains circuit integrity.

Features:

  • Intumescent reaction activates at 175°C
  • Maintains current-carrying capacity (non-derating)
  • Waterproof & airtight protection
  • UV-stable acrylic latex technology for long-term durability
  • Suitable for industrial and critical applications

Fire Performance Test – Cable Coating

A fire resistance test was conducted on a 1.1 kV, 3.5 Core, 300 sq.mm Aluminium cable coated with CharCoat CC.
The cable was exposed to direct flame from a Bunsen burner (LPG source) at approximately 1500°C for 30 minutes..

Test Observation & Results

  • Checking of community between cores
  • The coating did not emit harmful smoke or fumes during fire exposure.
  • Flame transfer across the cable
  • No dripping of coating
  • After 30 minutes of test completion Char removed
  • Damaged outer coating and sleeve cut & removed, Armour cut
  • The coating remained stable with zero molten dripping, ensuring safety.
  • Cores seen after that No damage, No Blackening
