Charcoat 1709

UL1709 Epoxy Intumescent Fireproofing Coating for Hydrocarbon Fire Protection – Up to 5 Hours

CharCoat 1709 is a premium, high-build, 100% solids, two-component epoxy intumescent fireproofing coating specifically engineered to protect structural steel against severe hydrocarbon fire exposure. Independently tested in accordance with UL 1709, it provides up to 300 minutes (5 hours) of passive fire protection, making it ideal for critical industrial and energy infrastructure.

Designed for both interior and exterior environments, CharCoat 1709 combines exceptional fire resistance with outstanding corrosion protection and chemical durability. Upon exposure to extreme heat, the coating expands to form a robust insulating char layer that shields the substrate, helping maintain structural stability and extending evacuation and emergency response time.

Suitable for demanding applications in the oil & gas, petrochemical, power generation, offshore, and industrial sectors, CharCoat 1709 delivers long-term performance, reliability, and asset protection in the most challenging operating conditions.

How it Works

When exposed to hydrocarbon fire conditions, CharCoat 1709 activates at approximately 175°C, expanding significantly to form a robust carbonaceous char layer. This insulating barrier effectively reduces heat transfer to the underlying steel, helping maintain structural integrity by keeping substrate temperatures below critical failure thresholds.
